Latest U-Value Requirements

Through extensive product development and testing we are pleased to announce that the Guardian Warm Roof System now achieves its lowest U-value yet of 0.15 W/m2K, inline with the latest Part L building regulation changes that came into force from the 15th June 2022.

What is a U-Value?

U-values measure the rate at which heat transfers from a structure. The higher the U-value means more heat passes through the structure.
Part L building regulations have previously stated that for home extensions and conservatory roofs, U-values should not be higher than 0.18 W/m2K in refurbished cases and 0.16 W/m2K for new builds.

What's New?

Every few years, the government requirements for building control approval become more and more strict. For this reason, we make sure our roofs are always above and beyond the required legislation making them future proof.
Now all new build roofs on extensions and conservatories should have a U-value of no higher than 0.15W/m2K and a U-value of no more than 0.16 W/m2K in refurbished cases.

Our U-Value

With these new requirements the Guardian Warm Roof has achieved a lower system U-value and is officially compliant through approved independent testing from the BRE. Our overall System U-value is: 0.15 /m2K
The Guardian Warm Roof is the original conservatory roof replacement system and remains the leading system that is regulation compliant for complete peace of mind.

Take a look for yourself

Take a look for yourself at some of our previous builds and projects, these are always being added too and we have many more pictures upon request. If you would like to see a real life example, get in touch and we can arrange for you to see one in person.

How long will it take?

Below is a typical timeline for a Guardian Roof Replacement. With cooperation from yourselves and fast decision making we can sometimes speed this up.

Are you still unsure?

Take a look at some of the frequently asked questions relating to our Guardian Roof replacements. If you’re still unsure, feel free to get in touch and one of our friendly employees will be happy to discuss and issues or concerns you may have.

Planning permission is not needed to change your conservatory roof but building control approval is recommended. The Guardian Warm Roof has full LABC approval and this will help speed up the process.

The greatest advantage of the Guardian Warm Roof lies in its temperature control design. In summertime, it effectively blocks out the heat, ensuring a cooler interior. In the winter, it traps and preserves warmth, preventing it from seeping out, thus shielding you from the chill of outdoor temperatures. This transformation makes your conservatory a versatile living area suitable for various activities year-round, regardless of weather conditions.

Our collaboration with VELUX enables us to provide you with top-tier roof lighting, available in various sizes to match your preferences. These units can come with pre-installed blinds or shutters in a selection of colours, effectively regulating the light and keeping your conservatory cool during the summer months. To elevate your experience we can also integrate a VELUX ACTIVE rooflight, which autonomously manages light and ventilation within your space. With these choices, you can enjoy a well-lit area during the day and, in the evenings, unwind while gazing at the night sky.

The industry-leading design of the Guardian Warm Roof means it is typically lighter but stronger than the glazed or polycarbonate roof it replaces.

In most cases building control approval is recommended. Our roofs comply with the latest building regulations as of October 2023 and we handle all of this for you. You will be supplied with a B/C certificate upon completion of the works.

GUARDIAN ROOF SYSTEM – KEY BENEFITS

For many people it’s the same issue. They love their conservatory but it’s either too hot, too cold or too noisy. Most of the issues are down to one element, the roof. By replacing the glass or polycarbonate roof with a stylish Guardian™ conservatory roof you don’t just improve the appearance, you now have a fully insulated, soundproofed roof that is exactly what you always wanted. Airy inside, substantial and impressive on the outside

THE GUARDIAN WARM ROOF SYSTEM

The lightweight, insulated Guardian™ roof system was designed and developed over a ten year period and with one purpose – to replace the typical glass or polycarbonate roof that was used in the construction of most UK conservatories.

The main focus was on the dynamics and performance, however the overall weight of the replacement roof, which needed to be installed onto the existing conservatory windows, doors and frames was always a big priority. During this period extensive tests were carried out both for compliance and approval to very vigorous structural and thermal standards. The result is not only a brilliant product but a very practical solution and one which offers a truly stunning way to improve your home.

BUILDING REGULATIONS

Only since October 2010, has it been officially possible to put a solid roof onto a conservatory or porch.

In August 2013 the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) released a circular containing some basic guidelines relating to Building Regulation Legislation which apply to the replacement of a translucent roof (made from glass or polycarbonate) onto a conservatory or porch with a solid roof.

The Guardian™ solid roof is a strong, lightweight tiled roof and is fully approved by the Local Authority Building Control.

THERMAL REGULATIONS

To comply with part L of the building regulations 2010, all roofs to rooms (except those in unheated buildings) should be thermally insulated to a maximum U-value of 0.18 W/m²K.

STRUCTURAL

The building as a whole must be structurally sound. Any alterations that affect the original structure must be carefully considered. The foundations must be checked to ensure their suitability for an increased loading. The conservatory window framework must be assessed also and the new roof structure must be proven to be structurally sound.

PLASTER FINISH

Because the ceiling of a conservatory is typically angled and high, the interior space that you enjoy is often light and airy. Whether you choose roof windows or not, our skilled plasters will finish your ceiling with a beautiful smooth texture ready for painting. Matt white seems to be the most popular colour.

TIMBER INTERIOR FINISH

Because we are removing your old roof and installing a completely new lightweight, insulated roof you’ll have a wide choice of interior finishes, one very popular choice is the timber. It’s amazing how the wooden ceiling completely changes the character of the room and creates a log cabin effect which you can then develop with your own choice of finishings, lighting and interior ornaments and art.

LED SPOTLIGHTS

Lighting can certainly effect the atmosphere and ambiance of a room, especially if you want your new conservatory to be a multi-use environment. So we recommend LED lighting and you can choose to have as many individual down-lights as you want, plus you can include dimmer switches or even have more than one switch to alter the number of lights that are actually on.
